Work Environment
The Roanoke Valley's work environment consists of a strong industrial
base. The area's history as an industrial community can be traced
back almost 100 years. Today, paper continues to
be one of the Roanoke Valley's major manufactured products, along
with molded plastics, wood products, and fabricated metal. The
area also has a strong agricultural tradition and is one of the
state's leading producers of cotton and peanuts.
Attractions
Southern charm, rich history, a spectacular natural setting
and mouth-watering dining are just a few of the the delights
that await you in the Roanoke Valley. Often called North Carolina's "cradle
of history," Historic Halifax is the birthplace of the Halifax
Resolves, a document that gave rise to the creation of the Declaration
of Independence. This state historic site is a "must see" for
everyone in our area. The natural landscape also provides a wealth
of recreational activities. From Lake Gaston, a 34-mile man-made
lake, to Medoc Mountain State Park, a 2,300-acre natural wildlife
preserve, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
